I currently teach 3rd Grade at Carnesville Elementary School in Carnesville, Georgia. I completed my M.Ed. in School Library Media in May 2005. We are in a building program expecting to open a new elementary and a new middle school at the beginning of the 06-07 year, so I am hoping to be in one of the Media Centers there. Because I believe that a Media Specialist should be fluent in the use of all media, I am working through the Studio program where I am learning how to use speciality tools that will enable me to communicate with my future patrons in a tech savy way, and to develop instruction that fully integrates technology into lessons. During the introductory part of the three course Studio program, I practiced using these tools while developing an interactive webpage for my 3rd grade team.

I also believe that it would be helpful for a media specialist to know the characteristics and special needs of all aspects of a school's population. Therefore my advisor and I have created a course of study for my Ed.S. program that includes study of the special needs of gifted and special education students. Getting a deeper understanding of methods of teaching these students will be extremely helpful to me as I collaborate with classroom teachers to develop and present instruction from the media center.

Along with the technology and specialized curriculum and instruction classes, I am concentrating on areas of literature where I personally need additional study to be the most effective media specialist I can be. These include folk literature, poetry, and teen and young adult literature.
